Sgt. Anthony Michael Wallace

Sgt. Anthony “Tony” Michael Wallace-Hoonah, AK Police Department.

Sgt. Wallace and Officer Matthew Tokuoka were ambushed and killed by a lone gunman. A man the officers had arrested on several occasions in the past walked up to the officers and opened fire. Sgt. Wallace was shot first, Officer Tokuoka went to render assistance and was subsequently shot.

Officer Tokuoka was taken to a clinic in Hoonah where he succumbed to his injuries. Sgt. Wallace died in Juneau as he underwent surgery. In April 2010, Sgt. Wallace was posthumously awarded the Police Medal of Heroism by the Governor of Alaska

Prior to his service in Alaska “Tony” was a long time Campus Safety Officer with the Rochester Institute of Technology, he was a certified EMT and volunteer firefighter. Sgt. Wallace was also a graduate of RIT and one of the few deaf police officers in the United States.
